THE BRIEF
The Ramada Edmonton Yellowhead NW is a medium sized hotel property with large banquet spaces, on-site restaurant, and many other amenities. Adopting the Ramada by Wyndham brand in February 2018, the hotel was formerly known as the Yellowhead Inn. Over many years of operation, the hotel had naturally gone through the inevitable rigors of thousands of guests and general usage of their rooms in many parts of the property. A renovation project was put forth in motion
to revitalize older, worn down rooms and to modernize the image of the hotel under the Wyndham banner. Prior to conversion to the Ramada brand, other rooms had already undergone renovation during the Yellowhead Inn years by Jaffer Group’s development and construction, Bilt.
SCALED DEMOLITION
With a completed main floor for reference, the Bilt team implemented a method in which they could optimize their time and methods required to bring the rooms up to speed. All renovations started off with basic demolition of the rooms. With Bilt’s experience in executing demolition projects, the scale of this work was quickly completed within a few weeks on nearly all remaining rooms. A construction team was able to efficiently remove furnishings, tear out carpet, and properly assess electrical and plumbing components that required maintenance. The end result of each room left a clean, empty space ready for a fresh look to be implemented.
LEAN RENOVATION
Bathrooms were the first part of the renovations as they typically can be the most time consuming. After careful placement of tiles, proper installation of sinks, toilets, shower heads, tubs, and countertops, the bathroom were ready. Other aspects such as millwork and painting included installation of a red corner bench, storage drawers, open closet area, and new grey wooden headboards. This was all planned in-house in order to optimize time and work performed in the rooms.
With the paint dried up and woodwork installed, the final steps included setting up carpet and lining. A brand approved carpet texture was supplied as Bilt carefully cut and measured each room accordingly. As rooms neared completion, Bilt employs a thorough final inspection to ensure it is ready for guest use.
